General route

Bonjorno!

Here we are again at long last. &We’ve brought with us the long awaited post about our general route throughout Florida! Oh joy. Let’s get started, shall we?

When we took out a map of Florida to start planning our route, it quickly became obvious that it was going to be very difficult to tick every box on our wishlist. So, unfortunately and much to my dismay, we had to use the c-word. Compromise *shudders*.

Below you’ll find a general outlook on the route we want to travel by during our vacation, including some of the stops that we definitely want to make. It took us a while before we figured out how we should start planning this. In the end it was our flight that basically determined how our journey was going to go. We were struggling between either starting from Orlando and going South towards Miami, or start in swinging Miami and travel our way up to Orlando. Once we made this choice, the next big thing was to decide whether to travel down the west coast or the east coast.

Eventually we decided to kick our journey off in Orlando. After we’ve been able to recover from our flight a bit we can immediately start visiting themeparks. We’re probably going to spend one day at Walt Disney World and one day at Universal Studios. From there on out the plan is to rent a car and travel on to Crystal Rivers where we’ll hopefully be able to swim with some manatees (aaaah the excitement!). After that our southern bound journey towards Miami can start. First stop: St.-Petersburg. There’s lots of things to do in this area but we’re particularly interested in the Salvador Dalí Museum. We’ll continue our trip by heading to Sanibel Island where we can ‘shell’ our little hearts out and simply enjoy the beautiful beaches. Pure holiday bliss if you ask me. Next in line are the Everglades –oooooooh. I’m not sure if I’ll be brave enough to venture amongst the alligators in the mangrove but it’s an absolute must-see when going to Florida. With that box ticked, it’s time for the next obligatory stop, Miami.
We’re thinking about taking Miami as our base location and then making several outings to the surrounding area which, ofcourse, is mainly the Keys. Once we’ve explored that bit of Florida as well the end of our trip is already in sight. We’ll spend our last days in Miami where, besides lazing out in the sun, we plan on going to see the Miami Heat play before we have to get back on the plane to Belgium.

So voila, there you have it, a general idea of what our vacation in Florida is going to entail. For our Thursday Tickle for this week we’re going to go further into one specific part of our general route so make sure to check back here!
